Creating the perfect Salad Tips and Tricks

You can create a salad with almost anything. But we all want them to look amazing so they give our fellow colleagues salad envy.

  • Pick fresh vegetables and fruit. By this we don’t mean UNRIPE. We mean fresh. There’s nothing worse than adding something to your meal which makes it mushy and unappealing. Similarly use a sharp knife or even a mandolin to cut your elements evenly and thinly.
  • Pick fruit and veg that are bright and full of lots of colour amidst the green lettuce and leaves. Colourful foods shout out fun and happiness so don’t be afraid to add that tomato, yellow pepper or even orange. Colours always signal flavour and nutrition.
  • Know how to layer your components. Always start with leafy greens at the bottom. They provide the foundation. Add a bit of protein like chicken or even tuna. Then add your bright coloured components. You can choose whether to scatter them equally or to keep them on their own area. Followed by small components such as nuts/raisons/cut up fruit and veg. For delicate touches of depth add herbs or a few leafed herbs. But add them like you’re adding a pinch of salt. Avoid being too heavy handed. (You can also add crumpled cheese) .For the final touch drizzle dressings/oils.
  • Go moderate with the dressing/oils. Even though lettuce tastes better drowned, it doesn’t look great. You simply want to drizzle it on top of your already carefully crafted salad. (TIP: soak your leafy greens in ice water and then leave it to strain all the excess water off. This makes sure your leaves stay crunchy and enhances the flavour).
  • Get the right tools. Just how your salads are a masterpiece, the artist needs the correct canvas. Salads always look the best when in a pretty bowl with pretty cutlery. We recommend our jumbo bowls with our lovely coconut wood cutlery to give the real feeling of being with nature, and to promote health and nutrition. Choose from Original or keep it Natural. Similarly choose from Ebony or Light Brown cutlery.

NOTE: Salads don’t have to be leafy and green. Think about using grains, or beans, or even fruit. Aslong as they compliment each other and you like the foods you’re adding then add what you like. Be creative.
